Biographical Info | John “Jet Li” Douangdara Petty Officer 1st Class Douangdara enlisted in the United States Navy in February 2003. After graduating Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois in April 2003, he reported to his initial service school training at Norfolk, Virginia. Upon completion of his initial training, he reported to Naval Air Station Sigonella Security Detachment, Sicily in June 2003. In August 2006, he reported to Public/Ordnance Safety Security Force, New London, Groton, Connecticut. He then reported to his East Coast based SEAL Team in January of 2008.
KIA August 6, 2011 with 30 American heroes when their Chinook Helicopter was downed by enemy fire.
The John Douangdara Memorial War Dog Park has been named after him in his hometown of South Sioux City. This dog park honors all Military Working Dog Handlers and their loyal partners the Military Working Dog. The park is part of Siouxland Freedom Park, which honors veterans past, present and future by bringing to the midwest replicas of national war monuments. A life sized bronze statue of John and Bart was made in honor of these heroes by internationally known sculpter Susan Bahary. You many have seen her famous monument for Military Working Dogs on base in Guam. The statue is located at Siouxland Freedom Park in Nebraska.
